On 6 July 2011, DocCom participated in the annual Bristol
University SETsquared Garden Party and Innovation Showcase event,
held at the Goldney Orangery in Clifton. This event is designed to
highlight the most promising young technology companies emerging
from the SETsquared business incubator unit set-up.
Following an earlier elimination process, SETsquared had put
forward those innovator companies most likely to catch the eye of
investors, potential technology partners and government-backed
support organisations. An independent panel of judges with a
range of qualifications was asked to make the final decision after
cross-questioning the companies and hearing their "elevator pitch"
(a platform-delivered, sixty second summary of what the company
does, what the benefits are, and the business journey it hopes to
take).
As well as aspiring new technology businesses, the audience
included business investors, large technology organisations such as
IBM and Logica, government-funded organisations such as the UK
Technology Strategy Board, the BBC (who covered the event for
regional TV), and legal services firms such as Veale Wasbrough
Vizards (who were providing sponsorship and advice).
Dr Jonathon Shaw (Co-Founder) and Robert Murgatroyd (Head of
Business Development) were representing DocCom for the evening, and
were kept very busy with inquiries and leads from a crowded
audience. Robert Murgatroyd took the platform to deliver the
DocCom elevator pitch, explaining, in very abbreviated form, the
nature of DocCom's unique development of a Social Media platform
for healthcare professionals, and the company's exceptional
potential for growth. Despite being "pipped at the post",
DocCom again received many plaudits.
